I hope its time that we all admit
that the changes we’re looking for here in our country Uganda and outside the
whole world are fundamental changes in the way we’re living. It is not in my
power to force anyone to adjust or change from the way they live. But if I had
to give one piece of practical advice it would be this: Whatever we’re doing to
our planet is just a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to
people whom we love so much.
Our day to day routines plays out
as a reflection of who we’re through the interaction and the choices we make
with our surrounding environment. It’s good to love ourselves enough so that we
can be able to create an environment in our lives that is conducive to the
nourishment of our personal growth. It’s time that we all learn to let go of
the people, thoughts, and situations that ends up poisoning our personal well-beings.
Our task therefore as responsible citizens
is not to negotiate with problems but instead to cultivate vibrant solutions
and a learning environment that will enable us to commit ourselves towards
making decisions that will help our environment to release the greatest
expression of our uniqueness and personal integrity.
We don’t have to continuing reasoning
like a man who created the plastic bag, aluminum can and the paper plate, and
this was a good step for him because he could then take his automobile and buy
all his food in one place and he could save that which was good to eat in the
refrigerator and throw away that which had no further use. But soon after the
earth was covered with heaps and heaps of plastic bags and aluminum cans and
paper plates and disposable bottles and there was nowhere to sit down or walk,
this man shook his head and cried; “look at this God-awful mess”
That man completely failed to
understand the mess he created in the first place and that’s why he started
blaming God for all the up coming environmental dilemmas that started invading
his territory. Human beings we’ve been good towards blaming the government for
all the messes and problems we have created ourselves and yet we continue to
create and repeat the same things, day in and day out. For example is their any
one among us who doesn’t know that throwing trashes like plastic bags full of
plastic bottles over the passengers window when we’re traveling is complete
backwardness. On the other hand, who doesn’t know that if we stop paying
attention to all the things that nature give us for free like clean air, water,
mountains, rivers, oceans, and landscapes we’re going to lose the beauty of our
planet earth.
We can talk all we want about the failures of our governments but there is no one who lives in the government. What’s really hard for us to believe that the whole environmental crisis we’re witnessing at the moment here in Africa and across the world has its roots in our lives.
Let us not continue to deceive ourselves with
the way we behave and interact with our environment because this planet is,
was, and will always be stronger than us. We can't destroy it; and if we
continue to pressurizing it, it’s even capable of erasing us away from its surface
and continue to carry its existing mission.
Let us just take a look at how our
trees are excited, bowing all their branches in glorious enthusiasm with hope
for tomorrow. Their songs never cease. No wonder they were God’s first
cathedral. Let’s honor the connection we have with our planet, let’s honor the
art by which it is done, let’s honor the things its makes and its modesty and
good work of continuing to provide us with everything we need.
